Breed Spotlight: Meet the Dachshund

The next dog in our Breed Spotlight series is the Dachshund. Meaning  ‘badger dog’ in German, the breed was originally bred  in the 18th Century to hunt and dig out badgers. Overtime, the Dachshund became popular and was a favourite amongst royalty. However, fell out of favour during World War 1. After the war American breeders slowly rebuilt the gene pool and the breed regained it’s popularity.  Today, the breed is a lively and loyal companion loved my millions across the world.
