Homemade dog biscuit recipe

Dog biscuits

Dogs love treats! And while we stock a great range of treats including goodies from Lily’s Kitchen and Pet Munchies, certain occasions call for something a little more special.

So with the Queens Platinum Jubilee just around the corner it’s the perfect excuse to grab your baking gear and make some tasty homemade dog biscuits that even the queen’s corgis would enjoy!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • A spoon
  • Whisk or blender
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Grease proof paper
  • A baking tray

  • 1/2 Cup of unsweetened applesauce*
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/8 cup of dog friendly peanut butter – ensure there is no Xylitol.
  • 1/2 cup of grated carrot
  • 2 -3 cups of oat flour**

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 °C.
  2. Start by mixing your egg, peanut butter and applesauce. You can do this with a whisk in your mixing bowl or by using a blender.
  3. Once combined, add to your grated carrot, lightly mixing.
  4. Then slowly mix in your flour, the amount needed can vary so it is important to add it slowly. You will need to use your hands to help form a dough.
  1. Once you have formed a dough, use some Oat Flour to dust your workspace and rolling pin. Lay out the dough and cut into shapes.
  1. Lay your shapes on a lined baking tray and bake in the oven for 18 – 25 minutes. The bake time will depend on the thickness and size of your selected cookie shape.
  1. Allow to cool then let your pup enjoy!

*If you’re struggling to find unsweetened applesauce, you can use an unsweetened apple baby food as a suitable alternative.

**Oat flour can be easily made at home by using a food processor or blender to blend oats into a fine powder.
