How to Make Homemade Dog Biscuits

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Whisk or blender
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Grease-proof paper
  • Baking tray

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce*
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/8 cup of dog-friendly peanut butter (ensure it contains no xylitol)
  • 1/2 cup of grated carrot
  • 2-3 cups of oat flour (either shop-bought, or make your own as detailed below)

*Tip: If you’re struggling to find unsweetened applesauce, you can use an unsweetened apple baby food as a suitable alternative.

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  2. Mixing the egg, peanut butter and applesauce together. You can either do this with a whisk in your mixing bowl or by using a blender. If using a blender, transfer the batter to a mixing bowl once these ingredients are combined.
  3. Add in the grated carrot and mix gently.
  4. If you are making your own oat flour, add the oats to a blender or food processor and blend the oats into a fine powder. If you have shop-bought oat flour, proceed to step 5.
  5. Slowly mix in the oat flour. The amount needed can vary so it is important to add it slowly until a dough is formed. Use your hands to help form the dough.
  6. Use some oat flour to dust your workspace and rolling pin. Roll out the dough and use your cookie cutter to cut out your homemade dog biscuits.
  7. Lay your dog biscuits on a lined baking tray and bake in the oven for 18-25 minutes. The bake time will depend on the thickness and size of your dog biscuits.
  8. Take out of the oven when they are a golden brown colour.
  9. Allow your homemade dog biscuits to cool, then let your pup enjoy!
