How can my dog keep healthy skin?

What is the skin?

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It regulates your pet’s temperature and provides a barrier against the environment. It is made up of different layers, structures and microorganisms and it is important to keep all of these balanced to minimise the risk of skin disease developing.

The skin – as a barrier 

The skin barrier is essential in protecting the body from external irritants. It is therefore very important to support and protect the skin before, during and after problems occur. Topical treatments, like DouxoⓇS3, will help support and rebuild your pet’s skin barrier.

How can I keep my pet’s skin healthy?

By regularly using either a shampoo or mousse (no rinsing needed – just leave on) you can help your pet have a healthy skin barrier.  There are many shampoos and waterless mousses on the market that will help your pet smell nice but not all will maintain the skin barrier so make sure to read the claims on the label and ingredients.   Also less is more: many products have lots of additives and these have had some negative press in the human and veterinary world. Things like Parabens, Phthalates, Nanoparticles, Colourants and Soap can be harmful to the skin if used long term.  Finally checking that the shampoo or mousse is pH balanced ensures that the product will promote the healthy good bacteria that live on the skin and help keep away the bad ones.

Shampoo or Foam?

Many dogs and especially cats do not like being showered.  Shampoos need to be applied and lathered up and then left on the dog or cat for 10 minutes before rinsing off.  This can be very difficult for both pet and pet parent!
